2. VOLUNTEERING FOR THE PROJECT

You can support the construction of The Sun School by joining the project as a volunteer. We welcome all volunteers who are willing to dedicate their knowledge, experience, skills, and time to the children of Kargyak.

You can participate in the project in two different ways: as a fieldworker at Kargyak or as a member of the project team in Prague and other locations.

Who are we looking for?

We need people who like manual work. If you are a bricklayer, a carpenter, a cabinetmaker, or a stonecutter, either as a professional or as a do-it-yourselfer, you are most welcome to take part in the construction of the building.

People familiar with the process of construction and its supervision: We will make use of building engineers, architects and surveyors.

People able to help when somebody gets injured or feels sick: Are you a medical doctor, a nurse or do you have any certificate in life saving or first aid, you will be an important part and support of the team.

People wishing to dedicate their time and patience to children. Several teachers usually come for six months and teach not only English, but also basic skills that Europeans sometimes take for granted.

We require all volunteers to come to Kargyak for at least two months within the summer period (May to September).
For the following terms we only need teachers: 11/2008 – 4/2009 and 5/2009 – 10/2009.

Experience with cooking for larger groups is more than welcomed.

What you can count on?

A demanding journey and acclimatization. The area is high in altitude, remote, difficult to access and harsh. A car or bus will drop you within several days walk to the village. It is necessary to climb up slowly because of the possibility of altitude sickness – you will spend at least one week trekking. The trek itself is an amazing experience, but you should be familiar with mountain walking.

A financial participation

We will provide you with food and accommodation in the village. You‘ll have to pay for your transport, visas, insurance and vaccinations.

The work will matter, the landscape is inspiring, there will be lots of fun, and the difficulties will be forgotten!
