After the great success of the first ever Benefit Concert for Sun School, the Civil Association Surya are back with yet another attractive event. This year’s concert is going ahead on Tuesday 11th May 2010, starting at 19:30 in Betlehem Chapel, Prague. Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy a string quartette Lamborgini string quartet, Spanish quitarist Zdeňek Bína and jazz tunes of Ondřej Pivec and Organic quartette.
You will be welcomed by Surya’s benefactor, the well known Czech actor and moderator Jaroslav Dušek, who will gude us through the evening. He invites all friends and supporters of Surya: “I am totally fascinated by people who go and do something that others deem completly impossible. That’s why i like the Sun School of Jan Tilinger in Himalayas. I‘d love be a pupil at such a school... I invite everybody who want to open their solar braid!”
During the evening, we will hold an auction-sale of high quality photographs of the Himalayas.
The Civil Association SURYA built an ecological Sun School in Kargyak (Indian Himalayas), which was officially opened in 2008. The whole project was born from endless enthusiasm of a Czech student Jan Tilinger at Czech Technical University (CVUT) and his MEng thesis. Without the help of many volunteers, enthusiasts and donators the School could have never been built.
Last year’s benefit concert helped us collect over 300,000CZK and we sold over 30 photographs in the auction-sale, which brought us another 150.000CZK. This secured education at the Sun School for the whole year. This year we want to do just the same. The financial help covers expenses such as teaching aids for pupils, wages for the local teachers and volunteers, equipment and management of the school, plantation of trees around the school or maintenance of the access road.
Lets do something pleasant and useful, come and help the children in Himalayas!
The SURYA Team and children from Kargyak would like to thank very much to all who come and enjoy the concert, or buy some of the amazing photographs!
Patronage of the benefit concert was incured by Prof. Vaclav Havlicek, MEng CSc, the rektor of Czech Technical University.

On September 21st, Kargyak Sun School will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its opening. There, in one of the last places on Earth, the original Tibetan culture survives at the elevation of 4200 m. Before the school opened, the village of 200 heads had only 10 members who could read and write a little. To get an education, children were sent away to boarding schools in faraway towns. Today, the Sun School has its alumni and thanks to the project, people stopped moving away from the village.
